hello, i just installed 'foxserv' and when i type in ' in my browser it does go to the default location and opens up a windows xp page, but if i delete this files to view my own it shows a '403 - Forbidden' message.

please tell me how to fix this

You need to replace the index.html page that you deleted with one of your own.

Make sure that you are working with the right web directory and server. If you were seeing a Windows XP page, you may have been looking at an IIS-served page, meaning that you are trying to run two web servers at once.

Well you see before I installed foxserv I formatted my computer which had apache and php on it, so this time I decided to try get a package one so I did and on the old apache server I could have no index.html file and it would just list the files in there for me to click.

It also runs the files from my 'C:\Inetpub\ directory instead of the 'C:\Apache\Apache\htdocs\' and I wanted to change this to there.

Please help, I greatly need to make me able to view my files without seeing a '403 - Forbidden' error and I'd rather if when I type in ' it went to the 'C:\Apache\Apache\htdocs\' directory instead of the 'C:\Inetpub\ directory.

Thanks in Advance

If you are being served pages from C:\inetpub, then your are using the IIS server that came with Windows, not Apache. You need to turn IIS off before Apache can be used.

Since you do not seem to want IIS, go to Control Panels>Add/Remove Programs and access the Windows components tab. Uninstall IIS.

okay i uninstalled iis

but not when i type nothing comes up at all, just says 'The page cannot be displayed'

is there someway i make it go to that directory when i type it in?

thanks in advance

Did you reboot after uninstalling IIS? There is a good chance that you have seriously monkeyed your system by recklessly installing two web servers at once. How easy would it be for you to uninstall/reinstall foxserv?

okay, i reinstalled foxserv but it still displays teh 'The page cannot be displayed' message

so close now, please help =)

thanks in advance once again

okay, it's almost better now, just one more problem :)

it does come up with a page now, it comes up with the foxserv default page and ive deleted all the files that are in the default pages folder but it still shows up with that.

thanks in advance

What are you considering the default pages folder? The real web document folder is most likely in something like 'C:\Program Files\FoxServ\Apache\htdocs....'

Unless the latest FoxServ has a control panel to define the document root, you may need to manually tweak your apache configuration to serve the 'default pages folder' that you think you are using. Search for 'httpd.conf' and review the settings in the configuration file with 'MS Notepad'. This file allows you to define your web document root.
