Foxprow 2.6 and DBF Encryption (Cryptor?) (Netlib?) 1

We are running foxpro for windows 2.6 and looking to upgrade security of DBF files. I was advised by this forum to research Cryptor. I have done so, however, it appears that Xitech, a UK based company is defunct, though they have a somewhat functioning website. Their phones are disconnected and they do not respond to email. Does anyone have a copy of Cryptor for sale that works with Foxprow 2.6 (I think Cryptor Version 4 & 5 are for VFP) or know where it can be purchased? I am also looking for any guidance on set up.

FPW was superseded as a product in 1995 so you're unlikely to find anything new on the market at this late date.

One problem you'll encounter with any current product offering is it will likely be either 32-bit or 64-bit while FPW was a 16-bit product so it won't likely be able to use more modern tools. But netlibsecurity.com does offer a free demo you could try. Just don't hold your breath.

I have this on a 3.5" floppy disk (that's the good news). The bad news is, it's in my storage in Saitama, which I go to about once a quarter. When I'm out there next I will pick it up (I think I still have the original manual with it too). If you haven't gotten ahold of it by then, we can discuss.

BTW, are you trying to encrypt the entire table set, or just some fields?
If you're looking to encrypt fields, I have another solution for that.

HI Scott,

Thanks. I don't think all the data across all databases need to be encrypted. I just want to protect some identity information and financial (credit card and banking details) These are in just a few DBFs.

I also looking for simplicity to implement. We have roughly 30 PRGs/FXPs that are running various procedures throughout our workday.

Also, ideally, we can display partial information on our screens like last 4 digits of card number.

My main concern (besides a general hack into our internal network and accessing DBFs) are employees finding their way to the command prompt (which we restrict File->exit by login credentials) and doing a File -> Open -> DBF and data revealed...

Scott, is the 3.5 Disk of Cryptor? If so, do you recall what version?

My father noted that Cryptor seemed like a pretty easy solution.
