I'm running Arcserve 2000 SP4 on a Windows NT box with a Dell PowerVault which holds 6 tapes...I'm backing up multiple servers with one job. The job starts at about 7:00 pm and runs fine till about 12:30 am when it looks for a new tape. The problem is that the job doesn't resume for about 4 hours at 4:30 am. Does anyone have a clue why it takes 4 hours to switch to a new tape. All of the tapes are blank media, so Arcserve shouldn't have a hard time recognizing them. Any ideas?

When is your DB pruning job scheduled to run???

if it conflicts with the backup window...
reschedule it to run outside of this window..

cheers
Speshalyst So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

My DB pruning job is set to run 1 hour before the backup job begins, and is finished well before the backup job starts

Are you sure it is not backing up in that time period, then at 4:30, asking for yet another tape?

Please post the entries from the arcserve.log showing the delay. If possible, enable detailed debugging.

One other possibility is that, since you are backing up network servers, it may be estimating. Try disabling the estimating in the job option to see if that eliminates any delay.
