Ahhhhh, summertime...and the lawyers are busy.
Okay, so Gershwin it's not. But Red Hat decided to counter The SCO Group's lawsuit against IBM and unspecified others for violating its open source intellectual property. In its' suit, Red Hat questioned the validity of SCO's claims and said that SCO was only out to create fear, uncertainty and doubt.
In other words, do what vendors normally do, but with a little less subtlety this time.
But if SCO thought that it could cool the competitive ardor of Linux vendors and their partners, you'd never know it by
yesterday's headlines. Apart from Red Hat's lawsuit and legal fund, Novell acquired Ximian, and Stuart Cohen of the Open System Development Lab sounded a defiant note of his own about the impact of SCO.
Maybe it was all just the preamble to the LinuxWorld Expo, which formally opens in San Francisco today. There will no doubt be more headline-making news before the week's through. Check back with InternetWeek to stay on top of Linux and all the latest in enterprise networking news and products.
