A client called me tonight sying they couldn't forward their calls on their main line to their answering service. I didn't set it up originally, and I'm not sure why they are doing it this way, maybe one of you could enlighten me.

They have a legend 7.0, intuity audix 2.0, and analog lines.

From Ext 110 they press the following:
*03 [xxxxxxx] (dial tone) 01 (dial tone) 72# [xxxxxxx] then they hit night service button.

I understand that the 72# [xxxxxxx] is for forwarding from Bell to an outside number, but why the preceding sequence?

The problem they are having tonight is that they are not getting the second dial tone.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like line 1 has lost the centrex or call forward feature.

I suggest they contact their service provider.

From Ext 110 they press the following:
*03 [xxxxxxx] (dial tone) 01 (dial tone) 72# [xxxxxxx] then they hit night service button."

"why the preceding sequence?"

The preceding sequence is designed for technicians to access individual trunks for testing, not for customer use.

They should have an Operator extension with the lines mapped to individual buttons, where they can just press line 1 and then dial the forwarding sequence.

And, yes, it sounds like the telco has removed the CF feature from the line.

I understand, but I don't know what *03 does.
*33 is Remote Call Forwarding, but I can't find *03 anywhere.

Since I can't ask whoever programmed this, I'm just trying to understand why they did it this way.

*03 is code for accessing a Legend CO port. 01 is the port number (1st Line port). This takes place within the PBX and gives you dial tone on Line 1. Then 72 is transfer code sent to Bell, followed by the number to transfer to. As mentioned above, *03 01 is intended for use in testing, not a normal sequence for transferring a call, albeit, it does work.

they don't get the second dial tone" means there is no dial tone on trunk 1. If you don't get dial tone on the line, anything you dial is useless. Sounds like you can't activate call forward because the line isn't there, or your dial sequence is off. Also you should dial a final pound sign before hitting the night service button.

What's with the 7-digit number between the *03 and the 01?

I am trying to test the *03 on my test legend, but I get error tones when I hit *03. What has to be activated for this to work?

the 7 digit number is the number for the craft password, not to be used by customers. cycochris, what version do you have? You may have to allow dialing trunk access codes for the extension you are using.

That is a bad choice for the user to Call Forward a line from the system.

Curious for more info about the * codes on the Legend and Magix, see my response to thread689-1285776 on this forum.

OK, I figured it out. My system was set up in key mode. I tested it and understand now. Thanks for all the help.

Line 1 was having problems with the carrier. All fixed now.

Someone set it up like this about 8 years ago (according to them). I'm not messing with it.
