I have to forward someone's email to his home account, no problem i thought its just a case of user properties- exchange general tab- delivery options etc.

But it wont connect to an exterior email address, do i need to set up this address in the AD?

Thanks for any help

Yes, you need to create a contact in AD, you will then be able to forward to that account.

In AD Users & Computers, right click an OU. Choose New, Contact.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Have to go into Active Directory Users and create a new contact. Then forward the email to that contact. Within the contact options you can create an external SMTP email address.

Just a few words of caution on forwarding from exchange...

You must filter SPAM before forwarding to external addresses. If you have an SMTP filter in front of or on the exchange server you will probably be OK. If you are filtering SPAM on the client side, then you run the risk of experiencing delivery issues to the external domain(s). Basically, your domain could appear to be a spam relay to domain you are forwarding to. The delivery problems can range from yourdomain.com messages being routed to the external target's junk/bulk mail folder or external target's ISP totally blocking your messages and ultimately to having your exchange server blacklisted.
