Forwarding call to a group 1

I have a single trunk line that appears and rings on a single station right now. MICS system. On no answer or busy it fowards to voice mail currently.

I need to be able to foward that calls to a group of backup stations -- but only for that one external phone line - don't want to forward internal calls. Secondly I would like to set it up so that if none of the backup stations answer it goes to voice mail that is easy for the user at the main station (her vm is best).

I came up with a solution but it seems odd -- does anyone know a better solution?

Plan:
For purposes of this discussion let's call the external truck phone number 500-9999. Call the main end users station #250.
I thought I would setup a 7100 in the phone closet (say dn#200). Set #200 to appear/ring with 500-9999. Set #250 to answer dn #200.
Set the #200 to forward on no answer to #201. #201 would be another 7100 setup in phone closet. All of the backup stations (say #260-#265) would be set to answer DN #201. #201 would be set to forward on no answer to vm for #250.

This allows the calls to 500-9999 to first be answered by station #250 - then be answered by any of #260-265 and then be put in #250 voice mail. It avoids having the caller end up in any other voice mail. It avoids having other callers to station #250 be redirected.

Any thoughts of better ways or problems?

Make a phantom DN with answer keys on the target telephones... watch your CFNA/Busy paths or put an external ringer in 200 and have the other phones do a pick-up. If you are lucky and have a high end ACD use that to distribute the calls to the target phones and make the ACD path go to a Vmbox. Minuette won't work well for that one...

The backup phone stations are in different areas of the building. I don't think an external ringer in 200 would work. What do you mean by "watch the Call Forward No Answer/Busy paths"?

When setting up answer DNs, you must consider two major call handling issues:
1. Calls tranfered to the DN from withing Norstar will not ring on the answer DNkeys assigned to the other sets.
2. Answer DNkeys will envoke voice mail CFNA responses from their host telephone set. (in other words if the answer key rings it will envoke the CFNA path set for the telephone it appears on)

Using external ringers even in several remote locations may not be as much of a headache as you may think as there are likely more than one pair of wires going back to the MDF from each stn.

If your Vmail is Norstar, your plan above will work fine, but use a phantom DN and assign Answer DN keys as if the DN were real on a phone. The no answer from a transfer situation you described you wanted is fine because it doesn't work anyway. Then set your DRT to Prime for less rings than the backup sets have to CFNA to Voice Mail and make your prime set the main set you wanted or the AA in your voice mail setup.
