Hey Folks,

I need to do two things. I need to create an extension not associated with a phone and then I need to forward it directly to voicemail. The extension is going to be used as a voicemail box only but needs to be reached from the outside. Can anyone give me advice on the best way to do this. I'm a Nortel guy that's slowly learning the MITEL.

Using a MITEL 3300 v4.2 w/a Nupoint voicemail system.

Best" depends on a couple of things.

How do you want to notify people of messages? (If at all)
Is "reached from outside" via direct dial or menu in voicemail.

I will assume message lamp required and direct dial.

Create a Keyline on a phone that matches the direct dial number
Use call rerouting Always to route keyline to vm
Create Message waiting Indicator key associated with keyline.

Done.

If you do not require Message indicators or the mailbox can be accessed via a voicemail menu then i would use other methods.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

We have used hunt groups, phantom ONS ports in a phantom peripheral node and phantom key appearances on phantom PKM modules. Take your pick. All are rerouted to voicemail always. As kwbMitel suggests you may need to address message waiting for your mailbox.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

@LoopyLou,

How do you program a phantom PerCab? Would this only work on MX controllers?

I'm intrigued.

Only would work on controllers that could support a peripheral cabinet via a dual FIM. Believe that is only the MXe or older LX and MX models.

You are hurting my brain trying to recall how to program a per cabinet since its been a while since I did one.

Will have to check an existing system.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Think you go into controller module config and program the phantom dual FIM, then go into peripheral/DSU unit config to program the phantom per node. Then card assignment to put in phantom ONS or even DNI cards ( with PKM's if needed ). Think that's how it goes if I remember right.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Road map (beyond MCD 5) mentioned:
'single button transfer to voice mail'
