Forward to extension rings indefinitely 1

We have a Merlin Legend with Intuity Audix here and had someone with a widely known DID number leave. Since there's no immediate plan to hire a replacement, I figured forwarding calls to the person who has taken over that person's responsibilities would take care of inbound calls.

So I removed that user's mailbox in Audix and took that extension out of the coverage group (30) that directs callers to Audix and did a Feature-33 from that phone (call it extension 230) to the extension I want to now receive those calls (call it extension 240). The forwarding works fine, with calls to 230 ringing at 240, but unlike a direct call to 240 where Audix picks up after the set number of rings, the call just rings indefinitely. If Audix would just pick up after the set number of rings with 240's greeting/mailbox, I'd be a happy camper.

Sure enough, checking the manual, I see "A call forwarded to an MLX or analog multiline telephone extension rings only once at the forwarding telephone and rings until answered at anavailable SA or ICOM button on the destination telephone". I can see where that behaviour might be useful in some circumstances, but I can't be the first one to have wanted it to work like I described above.

I tried going the "follow" route from 240 rather than the "forward" route from 230 with the same results. DID calls to the DID for extension 240 go to Audix just fine as do those just dialing 240 internally. I tried adding 230 back into Audix and putting it back in Cover Group 30 and the call does ring at 240 for the set number of rings before Audix picks up, but Audix picks up for 230 rather than 240 - I'd rather not have the person at 240 tending to 2 different mailboxes.

Any ideas short of having a RCF done by the telco on the DID number? I can't believe there's no way to handle it like this internally.

Thanks for any suggestions.

forwarded calls do not cover to voicemail, change the target in the PRI programming for that DID so it rings directly to the other extension rather than forwarding it.

Remove audix mailbox 230, leave the coverage and forwarding in the PBX and change Audix mailbox 240. Add 230 as a secondary Extension for 240 (lower left column on first page).
This will allow x240 mailbox to answer calls for x230, two extensions, one mailbox!
When you ever place a warm body at 230, remove from 240 and add a new MB for 230

Ahh - that sounds like exactly what I was after. Heading in to set it up now. Thanks!

pays to know the Audix it seems :)I think I will keep that in mind for the future

Didn't get a chance to post back yesterday after making the change - it did indeed work just as phonesrus described.

From looking at my Audix binder, it appears that "secondary extension" field was added in Audix 3.3 and is only mentioned in the context of it being "the subscriber's secondary fax extension" (which I believe is how I've seen an extension's adjunct extension referenced sometimes). Guessing it was added since one phone can technically represent 2 extensions (via the adjunct) though apparently there is no restriction requiring that field contain the extension actually associated with that extension's adjunct.

Thanks again.

I guess phonesrus deserves a star
here you have it

It is a nice trick, but you must remember that Audix was developed for the System 75 and Definity PBX's and adapted to the Legend and other PBX's. The hard part is finding the secondary mailbox, when in the future you wish to make that MB independent. When you do a "list sub" it does not show up, so I add the secondary to the name field in the primary thustly; Blow, Joe (x230) This makes it easier to find.
