Hi

I'm having an issue with forwarding to emails when the name in the tel dir is double barrelled with a space i.e le matt, matt.

It looks like the mail server is rejecting the email becaise the address in the FROM field is bad i.e le matt,matt@abc.com. This only happens with names like this.

works ok if i take the space out, but the customer doesn't want that as this site is also linked into OPS the AD.

Any suggestions?

anybody any ideas on this?

Looks like the Mitel SMTP client isn't validating the names properly.

In the from field yes. |So the exchange server see's it coming FROM an invalid address

A space is not a legal character in any e-mail address. It is not specific to Mtiel.

appreciate that, but it's the Mitel that generates the FROM address. Where does it get it from? In the help it says it should be the mailbox number@icp.com not name

If the name is from the tel dir and it's double barrelled the Mitel should put an underscore or something in the space, like it seems to do between first and last name

sort of.

If you look at a trace of a forward to email message, the FROM field is firstnamelastname@icp.com. Now if the name of that extension is Matt le test, the email will come from matt_le test@icp.com, which is invalid, because of the space between le and test. Don't want to change the name in the Tel Dir because it's linked to AD.

I don't understand where you are getting this "Tel Dir" from?

The e-mail address for voice mailbox users is in the Voice Mailbox Configuration portion of the programming. There is a field called "E-mail" under the "Forward to E-mail" section of the user's profile.

That's the email address of where to send the email. What i'm talking about is the email address of where it comes from i.e. the ICP. All emails have to have a FROM ADDRESS which is valid also. The Mitel creates it's own i.e mailbox@192.168.1.2 where mailbox seems to be the name in the tel dir
This is from the help file

From line: <<sender mailbox number>@<ICP DNS/IP address>>

Subject line: Voice Message <Node ID><mailbox number>
- or -
Voice Mail Message (Record-A-Call)

Message text: This E-mail contains a voice message. Double click on the attached file to listen.

I now understand you.

This is a bug and should be DPARed.

Your problem should reflect the Mailbox Name to e-mail alias conversion.

i think i have a work around which is to delete the space in the Mailbox name which doesn't affect the tel dir.

But it still should validate it if there is a space with an underscore. Do you agree?

The name in the Voice Mailbox Configuration has nothing to with A/D or the telephone directory. It is only used for identication of the mailbox AND dial-by-name.

I totally agree, however when adding a user through OPS, automatically it uses the name of the user when you tick the Voicemailbox unless you modify, which customers will forget!

Be a lot easier if their was a rule in the smtp client that basically says "put an underscore in ANY space in the name"

Shall i still raise it?

Thanks Mitelguy! Appreciate your help.

Also, with your inside knowledge have you or do you known when we'll know more about the Blackberry / FMC stuff?
