Hello, I would like to setup VPN for my company network, however the server is behind an Ovislink router. I know I probably need to forward something in the router settings, but I'm not sure what to even look for. When using VPN, should it forward a certain port, or protocol, etc, or everything to the server?

Which ports need to be opened for running VPN

A: PPTP VPN uses TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE); L2TP: UDP Port 1701; IPSec: Pass protocol 50 and 51. Note: 47 is a protocol number and not TCP port. The protocol name is GRE. It'll make a big difference when configuring your firewall or router.

Thanks for the reply ChicagoTechNet .. so am I correct in thinking that if I want an IPSec VPN setup, I will need to setup the router so that it forwards protocols 50 and 51, and UDP port 1701 to the server?

Does anyone know where I can get a good quality tutorial on setting up a IPSec VPN? One that has advise on how to do it through a router would be even better.
