I was handed a manual on Merlin Messaging and asked to manage the phone system.

First task: User A has left the organization and I am supposed to configure the system so all messages for User A are forwarded to the extension of User B.

If User B picks up, great. If not, calls to User A should go into the voicemail of User B (just as calls to User B would).

I don't see the procedure for this in the manual I was given.

How do I proceed?

Merlin version looks like it might be 7 (judging from the documentation).

Thank you in advance!

If you have Merlin Messaging, depending on the release, you may be able to make User B the Phantom Destination of User A's mailbox. Then put a Primary Coverage button for User A on User B's phone, so they can answer the extension when it rings.

So, say User A is Ext. 101, and User B is Ext. 102

At Ext. 102, Feature 00, press an unused button with a light next to it, dial *40, 101, Look under the display for Enter and press the button below it. This makes the coverage button, which rings when someone calls 101.

Log into the Voice Mail's System Administrator's mailbox, 9 for programming, 2 for mailboxes, 101# for mailbox 101, 9 for Phantom Destination, 102# to set 102 as the receiver. When someone calls 101, and it doesn't get answered at 101 or at 102's coverage button, mailbox 102 still answers. But the incoming message goes into mailbox 101.

Hope this helps!

When I tried to test this on my own extension, after dialing 00 (am I supposed to dial that?) all I hear is "Invalid Entry".

So I must be doing something wrong there.

And on my phone I don't have a "unused button with a light next to it" where I can dial *40.

I do have a Avaya phone but the only lights are next to "Mute", "Spkr" and "Redial".

Thank you for your input - but it looks like I may not have the right device for this. This is all supposed to be done by phone and not with a computer, right?

Latest news.

I found a phone with the Feature button.

I also found yet another piece of documentation (trying to round this stuff up).

So, if I press "Feature", dial 33 and then the extension to which calls should be forwarded, that works.

If the person picks up... If not, calls go to the original person's voicemail.

This is not quite what was requested (everything simply forwarded to the indicated extension). But it works for the most part
