.forward for sendmail

I have upgraded my machine from Solaris 2.6 to 2.8 and now find that the sendmail does not honour the contents of the .forward file. Checked the permissions on the .forward and they are readable by the owner only.

Does anyone have any suggestions or words of wisdom to resolve this problem.
