Forum using XML and Asp

Hello,
I am getting ready to code a forum. I have an example that was built using Asp and XML. Most of the other code that I have seen uses PHP. Can you tell me what the disadvantages of using Asp and XML would be, if any?

It all depends on
- how your application is designed
- how you handle locks and connection pools
- how easy it would be to port your application different platforms if need be.
- How you can easily extend your application to use other technologies such as Flash & SVG

I guess I was just thinking that if I used the ASP and XML approach it would be slower and unable to handle a lot of traffic, because it is not utilizing a database. I really don't know anything about XML at this point. Thanks
