All,

I have a client that is using a Fotinet VPN solution to connect multiple locations together. installed at the remote loctaions are VOIP phones and video surveillance cameras that can be viewed over the net.

Main site has a Fortinet 100 with a 3 meg internet connection. Remote locations have Fortinet 50's with DSL internet connectivity, where we have cams and 2 VOIP phones that are using g.729 codec to cut down the bandwidth that is being utilized.

Problem: When other applications are being used, i.e. cams being viewed remotely,VNC , etc..., the audio quality becomes such to where the phones are unusable.

Question: Is there a way, using the Fortinets, to prioritize the Voice traffic over all other traffic so that as these other applications in use the phones can still be usable?

Thanks in advance!

Not really. You are at the mercy of your bandwidth and internet connection. Bascially it boils down to the fact that this is a rather poor design.

You list what is (I suspect) the download speed of your DSL, but your VPN will be limited by the upload speeds, the remotes can't talk to the central office faster than they can upload, the central office can't talk faster than it can upload. In many VPN's, download speed is not the bottleneck.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
