I have 7 fields in detail. If field1 is duplicated in multiple records, then I only want to print the first detail line(record). Is the best way to this by going into format, then suppress if duplcated? If so, what would the formula be for the other 6 fields? These fields may not be duplicated.
Thanks for your help. BTW, I am on v9.

In 8.5 (I don't know about 9 but I guess it will be similar) you can format the details section as follows:
- for Suppress (no drill down) click on the X-2 formula editor
- enter formula
Code:
Next ({field1}) = {field1}

This should include only the first record for each field1
I hope this helps you!

Thank you for responding. I must be doing something wrong, because it still isn't working. Any other suggestions?

I tried this - I needed to use "Previous" instead of "Next" to show the first record rather than the second, but it worked fine. What exactly is going wrong?

Sorry, no other ideas.

I tried it on a test report (admittedly on 8.5 as I said) and it worked fine for me.

I hope someone else who has more experience with V9 will be able to help you.

John

I also tried it with Previous. Thank you SO much, both of you. It works!
Thanks again!

My Apologies,sclark415 - I'd not tested thoroughly enough. I'd checked that the field was printing only once, but I'd not checked that the other fields were from the first record.

Anyway, I'm pleased that you have the result you wanted - thanks to Katy44 for correcting me!
