I have received a spreadsheet from another user that will not allow me to insert a formula on they existing spreadsheet.

When I enter "any" formula such as +a1+b1, the actual formala is displayed in the cell and not the results.

what could the problem be?

Hi,

Check Tools > Options > View Tab: Uncheck Formulas in Wodow Oprions.

Check Format > Cells > Number Tab: Unselect TEXT. Edit the cell and hit ENTER.

Skip - thanks !

The second option worked.

Question: What caused this issue?

Someone set that option.

Skip - it is my understanding that the data came from a CSV file - could that be the issue.

a .csv is ONLY a text file.

It was in the Excel workbook that opened the file.

WHERE did you enter this formula? Explain where the cell is with respect to the data directly from the .csv file.

Skip - not sure.

The formula was in a report on sheet1 and the raw data (CSV) was in sheet2.

I am not sure if sheet1 contain data directly from the CSV file. However I believe it was copied or pulled from Sheet2.

It is not likely that the .csv import affected anything on the other sheet.

Was that formula the only one? SOMEONE changed the option setting.
