Is it possible to use a formula or the value of a text box on a form as the File Name argument of a TransferText action in a Macro. The user needs to export a number of similar files from a table with slightly different criteria. He wants the Transfer text to increment the output file each time he runs the macro during the current session.

The File Name argument box on the macro design view seems to want a string.

No but you can use VBA or a Module to accomplish something like this.

You could begin by selecting the macro and then from the tools menu select Macro and then Convert to Macros to Visual Basic.

Then you would have to manipulate code to do it... The same reference to a control on a form you can build in the query design window can be used in VBA. If you can at least get those pieces, if you still need help, post the pieces.

lameid,

Thanks for the response. A VBA module was my first choice, however, the creators of the database are also the users and they have no knowledge of VBA coding. 90% of our Access DB's were created by people who are insufficiently trained to do so and in this company there is categorically no support for Access databases (although the company would come to a screeching halt without them).

You answered my question, though, that it can't be done so it looks like I'm going to have to write them a module (which means everytime they want changes they'll be calling me.
