Hello,

Does anyone have or know a way of adding a formula to a mergefield within Word 07 to show only the first word or to restrict the the number of characters a mergefield to show.

If anyone can show me how to write a formula 'if, then' formula, this will also help to reduce the number of word shown to stop the overflow of text to the next line.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Javedi,

Unless it's numeric data (no more than 15 digits), it's not possible.

However, if you put the mergefield inside a table cell, you can format the cell with fixed dimensions. That will cause any overflow data to be hidden.

Alternatively, you could use the 'fit text' cell option to make the text shrink/grow in width to match the cell width.

Cheers

Thanks macropod,

I'll give your suggestion a try.
