My computer has been doing something weird recently. When I go to either edit a formula or create a new formula, it appears like the editor window is opening but it doesn't. Or, I can't see it atleast. Then, I'm unable to click anywhere else on the report or do anything. I have to End Task on Crystal. Occasionally it works again.

This is a laptop. When I'm in my office I use the laptop monitor in addition to an external monitor and my desktop is extended onto the 2nd monitor. Many times, I then Hibernate before taking my computer out of the office. It's almost like the window is opening on the other monitor that isn't there. I've rebooted several times and checked the monitor settings.

Any ideas? Thanks

When you have tried to open the Formula Editor and it freezes you should be able to press the Escape key to close it rather than ending Crystal Reports.

Something to try to get your formula editor back on your screen open up the Formula Editor, then press the ALT key, then separately press the Spacebar and then finally press the X key. This should maximise your Formula Editor window as it sounds like the resolution on your laptop is making the Formula Editor not sit on the screen.

Hope this helps.

I don't think your application is freezing up on you. It just sounds like your editor is open somewhere on your monitor canvas where you can't see it, and as is normal, the main Crystal window won't accept any interaction until the editor is closed.

You can control the coordinates the editor window floats at from your registry. As is the usual caveat, be careful when editing updating your system registry.

The key which controls the editor window float is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Crystal Decisions\<YourVersionHere>\Crystak Reports\Formula Workshop\Editor Position. You can modify these coordinates to get the window back to the workable area of your monitor. (e.g. Mine is set to 70,40,1020,900).

Thanks to both of you! I'll try those things in a few hours when I'm at my computer.

ShortyA....that worked! Thanks so much!

Naith...didn't try that since the first thing worked. It's good to know though.
