Forms - I just dont get filters

I have a form with a drop down list of data from a table. This data is linked to data in another table. I want the first form to have a button that opens a second form but for this second form to have the data linked from the drop down list.

I really have no idea about access so the simpler the better

To clarify, you want the user to select an option and click a button to show another form with more detail for the selected option?

Just trying to make sure I understand you before I start describing the wrong thing!
