Hi,

I have a PC which came with Linspire O/S pre-installed. I removed it from the PC and put it to another desktop using USB (external enclosure). But the problem is I cannot see the drive in the hard disk drive list in "My Computer". The drive is setup as slave. How could I do the formatting?

Thanks,

dbadmin,

I assume that you are refering to having moved it to a Winxx mschine. If this is a XP OS and the current format is one of the Linux modes you will not see this drive in my computer listing.

Open the ControlPanel > Computer Management > select removable devices and it should be present there. You can manage it from this menu.

Alternatively, as you have installed it in an enclosure, open it and get the drive information i.e. mdl#, mfg etc. and also check the drive jumpering at this time most enclosures require that the a drive be jumpered as Master.
Then obtain the drive makers utilities from their site and you can run these to manage the drive.

Lastly, if you have no luck at this, install the drive to your IDE bus (Jumper as slave) just to get it formatted correctly. Then you can return it to the enclosure.

Hope this helps
