Formatting problem when exporting report from Access to Excel

I am using Access97 and Excel 2000. I have a report in Access with a field of Dates when a project is completed. When I run the report everything looks fine, but when I do export/Saveas to excel some of the dates randomly show as "Date Time" (ie. 3/28/2000 12:00PM). I have the spreadsheet formatted to just show the date, and not date and Time. I have found no rhyme or reason for the formatting change. The only thing I've seen is that all the times shown are 12:00PM, and I know for a fact that all these dates were not inputted at 12:00PM.
I'd appreciate any suggestiosn someone could provide.
