Hi all,

Is it possible to format cells in Excel to have comma separators for numbers but not have to specify the number of decimal places?

Thank you.

->not have to specify the number of decimal places

How many decimal spaces do you want? I don't know, and neither does Excel. [wink]

Other than using a custom format (#,##0), Excel will assume that you want two decimals when you choose to have commas.

What I'm trying to do is to have flexible decimal places, so to speak. I want excel to show however many decimal places I type in (or none), but that it always has comma separators. Thanks.

You would need code to do this I believe

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

You can try custom format with a number of #s:
# #.#########################
