I am formatting a hard drive for NTFS using the win2d CD and the process freezes at 55%. I turned off the pc and restarted the process and the formatting freezes again at 55%.
Is the hard drive bad? Can I repair it?
It is a Gateway pc.

It might be possible that there are some bad sectors at that particular point. If its a seagate make then try running "DM". I think u can find somewhere on the seagate site.

I u had noticed that after formatting 55% it says " Trying to recover allocation unit" like that. If it is giving this message that means the drive has bad sectors. As I told u try running DM, if u r lucky it will work for u otherwise u have to change the drive.
