Formatting Dates in Microsoft Excel

In a spreadsheet I am working on, I am using a column for dates. It is a situation in that each of the date entries might take on different forms (for example, 15 November 2000, December 1996, 1978)--in other words, all of the dates do not take on a "standard" form. I am trying to get around that problem by formatting each of these cells with dates in them as type "text" so the cell information is read accordingly. However, this doesn't work--by default Excel makes these cells as type "date", and when I change them over to "text", I lose my information. This is especially important for me because I'm needing to import this sheet into Access. Can anyone help?

Beth:

Are you unable to select the entire columns and hit Format-Cells, choose the date format you prefer.

If this doesn't work, then go to Chip Pearson's DATES page and check out the information there. It should shed some light and give you some conversion functions. You're also welcome to email the file to me at the addie in my signature.
