I am ME 2000 and I want to format the hard disk and install Windows 98 instead. My laptop has no floppy drive. How do I get to the dos prompt to format the hard drive?

You could build a ramdrive and load the required fdisk on it.
You could also try fdisk from your operating system.
You need to verify that your cd will boot the system befor you do anything. And if it will, then you can probably do what you need to do from the cd. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Boot to the CD-ROM and cancel the setup.
You can then format the drive, as the CD will load the necessary commands in a ramdrive.
Once formatted, just reboot to the CD-ROM, and go through the setup. Cheers,
Jim
