Good day, I wonder whether anyone can help with an issue concerning formatting a floppy using Solaris 8?

Basically, the fdformat works perfectly, formatting the disk to 1.44 Mb as per spec. However, I understand that in linux, for example, the command:

fdformat /dev/fd0u1722

will format a floppy to 1.722 Mb. Does anyone know a) whether this works using Linux and b) whether there is an equivalent capability using Solaris. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Does that mean a 1.44MB floppy can be formatted to 1.772MB ?

Didn't know this was possible.

In Linux, apparently. The brave new world indeed! Haven't seen anything to indicate that it's possible on Solaris, but thought I'd post anyway.

Just to put this to bed, I've managed to find a Red Hat server and done the necessary on it. Very useful!
