I have an old pc I was trying to set up for my mother to use just for emails. I wanted to have a clean slate so I went into DOS and formatted the C drive but now when I put the win98 CD in the CD rom it doesn't load. I am not sure if it is trying to boot off the a drive or what. Please make your suggestions simple as I am not the most computer savy person around. I have done this before to other pc's and I always remember them booting right up.

An older machine may or may not have a CDROM as a boot possibility. You'll need to get into the BIOS (setup) and check the CMOS settings to see if there is a boot order capability and whether the CD is a choice you can put at the top.
If not, you download a boot disk for 98 or SE from and boot with that, using CD support, then move to the E: and run setup. (D becomes a ramdrive)

Yep, Ed nailed it. I don't believe the Win98 CD is bootable. You can try setting the boot order with the CD-ROM drive as the first boot device, but if that doesn't work, his suggestion to use a 98 boot disk will.

OK, thanks for clearing that up! Can't recall the last time I loaded 98, so I'm not surprised...
