Format tape with ACSLS/Netvault?

Ok got what is probably a very basic question but I am new at this and this one I cannot find and answer to. Can you format/wipe a tape using either ACSLS or Netvault? I dont want to just erase the header to make it a scratch. Have a group of tapes I need to insert and then do this to either formatting them or overwriting the whole tape. Only idea I have come up with is using a different program(Data Protector) to overwrite them all with a big "garbage" file.
