Format stings 1

Hi there got a slight problem with formating a string ive done this before but too long ago need some reminding

all im trying to do is get the frist two letters from a code eg

bd1001 all i want to use is the bd

currently got

prefixedcodedigits = Format(prefixedcode, "##")
but does not work

any help would be brill
