How to format Scandisk flash disk compactFlash to FAT16 format for MICB upgrade from release 2.09 to 2.11. I tried to format PCMCIA card to FAT16 from Windows 98, 2000, XP operating system but my back-up fails.

Thanks,

what size compact flash card?

try FAT32 format.

John

FAT32 don't work. In the Nortel product bulletin, MICB Release 2.11.03 maintenance release they told that "When formatting drives for backup or upgrades, formate the drive using FAT16 format." I tried to format FAT16 from windows 98 operating system but my backup failed. I have 64MB ScanDisk CompactFlash.

Thanks,

Anybody have any idea how to format OCMCIA card to FAT 16 so I will able to back up and upgrade MICB card ?
Thanks,

You must format the card with win9x or the switch will not recognise the
card ..do not use nt/win2k/xp

cards on Rls 24 and earlier can only use 48Meg Card and Rls, 25.08 and
higher can use up to a 64 Meg Card.
if you get Type II ATA flash cards, they are usually already formatted

Thanks for your advise, Colin. I already tried to fomat with Windows 98 but when I tried to do MICB release 2.09 back-up. The back-up is failed. I have problem with my MICB card. Some time it's lose the connection with system. When card loose the connection with system I am getting XMI 001 36 0 0 error message and after 2 minutes I am getting XMI 002 message and card is working. At the same time I am getting "0001:SW INIT 000 ln0080 ch00 01-01 00:00:10:129 RESET: reason is BUS_ERROR, pc=20133684, ssp=209b6930, sr=2700" error message in MICB. Sometime MICB card work 7-8 days without problem. You have any idea why it doing.

Thanks again for your advise.

There is a free PCMCIA card programmer available from nortel - you will find it with the software for otp11a = PCMCIACardProgrammer9.0

This will format the drive and load the software you intend to use.

I went to nortel site but they are asking for login ID and password. Any other way to format ?

Thanks

It's possible to format a PCMCIA card via the systems "pdt" facility. You will need to know the "pdt" password first & that is only given out to authorised Nortel maintainers.

All the best
