Using a old HD with Win98 installed in a new computer I put together. Bought the Win XP home edition for new computers. How do I partition and format the old drive with NTFS.

If the 98 Os is still on the drive, insert a Win 98 system disk in the floppy drive and FDISK the old drive. Just delete the partition and make the new one active. Do not format it.

Remove the floppy and insert the XP Home CD in the drive and boot from the CDROM (you may have to go to Setup to change the boot sequence).

Once the XP setup loads, you will have the option to partition and format the drive in NTFS.

Good luck!

Tony

Actually, if your cdrom can be made the the first bootable device in your bios, the XP cd setup will provide all the tools necessary to set your drive up without any extras.
