I have built and scheduled a report to run automatically to an email destination. Everything works, except that the report instance that gets attached to the email is a .DAT report. I have changed the Format tab on the object page to Word format, but it made no difference. Is there another detail I need to change before this sends in a different format? I have also restarted applicable Crystal Services. Thanks.

That's very odd, have you tried exporting to other formats?

Are you scheduling this from eportfolio or from within the CMC?

It sounds like the CMC since you speak of a TAB as there isn't a Format Tab in eportfolio.

What happens if you schedule/export it from eportfolio?

Did you explicitly state the file name with a .DAT extension from within CE under the email settings?

I am setting the format in

CMC > Manage Objects > "report name" link > "Format" tab.

I am also scheduling from the CMC. I have not tried scheduling from Eportfolio, but I will try that next. I tried allowing a variable for file extension in CMC object settings, but still no difference.

I can run the report directly from CR 9 and export it and it works great. I tried setting the format to Excel and to Rich Text, and still get a .dat file. I did specify a file name, but did not specify an extension. I discovered that if I save the report that gets emailed to me and change the extension to .doc, it works fine. I know that the people who will be receiving this report will be completely flustered if they have to do that, however.

Well, synapsevampire, I can't explain the problem, but I found a solution for now. If I go ahead and specify the filename as "filename.doc" in the destination settings, it comes in as a Word document. Odd, because I know I have seen it send in the correct format before without specifying a filename. Perhaps if the filename is specified, the extension has to be as well. Thanks for your advice, as always.

I would eliminate the scheduling from within CMC, and use eportfolio.

I always explicitly state .doc in the filename, but I can understand your frustration that it assumed a .DAT when you ddi not give a DOC an extension.
