format of menu in word

I am using MS Word 2013

I have a menu in a document which is in Times New Roman. I try to change the font and it looks fine but when I run update fields, entire table it reverts back to Time Roman. I just cant find out how to manipulate the menu at all, fonts, the look etc etc

When you say "menu" what exactly do you mean. Is it a TOC or an Index? It sounds like it is a field result, but what is the field code? (Alt+F9 will switch between showing field codes and field results).

I get this if I click Alt+F9:

{TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u} so pressume table of contents. So where does this get me?

You probably need to change the TOC styles.
