hi all,
I placed the SP node in diag mode and my
"nodecond frame slot" is failing. This is what I'm doing
spbootins -r diag -l {node#}
nodecond frame slot

Is this the right way and is there any other way of doing this.
Thanks!

Does 'splstdata -b -l <NODE>' show the node is set to diag?

Does your setup_server log file show anything (which may not being a diag. Can't remember when setup_server runs. Might only be during resource allocation)?

Can you open an 's1term -w <frame> <node>'?

nodecond must be returning output to your cws; what is it?

You check the status of the node with 'spmon -d' too.

setup_server should have run when the spbootins command was run, unless it was specifically turned off with the '-s' option.

however, i dont see why the poster needs to put a node into diag mode in order to format the disk. node diagnostics is for troubleshooting a host with a problem.

the format media option exists within the command line interface to diags. just type 'diag' while the host is up and follow the options.

But if I'm logged in how do I format the last rootvg disk?

if you have multiple disks in rootvg, then you can remove a disk from a volume group. go into "smitty vg". if there is existing disk space in use on that drive, then you can migrate this data off the disk before removing it, or remove the lv's in use.

I didn't get you.But I'm trying to format all the drives and shutdown the server forever.

ahhh ok. then you can just install a new OS on the box. your PSSP software should have come with what IBM calls a minimal mksysb image. usually named something like:

bos.obj.ssp.520

if you do that, then your host will have a generic operating system on it.

if you dont feel like that is enough, then you could always remove the hard drive(s) and format it on another AIX box, or otherwise destroy it.

what kind of SP node is it?

some people believe that there is no real safe way to clear a disk other than degausing it and destroying the platters.

to me, this is going to far. i dont keep sensitive data in my rootvg other than passwords. so for us, just installing a new OS is enough to prepare a box for disposal. if someone wants to go through the trouble of trying to discover my root password from a machine i have shut off, then let them. it won't work for any of my production boxes anyway...
