Format Back-up Tape? 1

I have an Octel 250/Aria 03.11.05-1. One of my nightly backup tapes is bad and I need to replace it. Do I need to format the new tape (and if so, how?), or can I just schedule the backup and insert the blank tape?

Any help would be appreciated.

just use the tape no need to format
