Does Legato corp. have a formal script or procedure for migration from Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup to Legato Networker?

My company was 'sold' (during a conference call that included Legato sales rep and our software distributor sales rep) that this capability was included in something called a "Sun to Legato OEM TRANSFER FEE". We have received our Legato Networker 7.0 distribution, but no migration script or instructions to go from Sun to Legato.

It's not a huge deal... I can blast the Sun stuff (V6.1.x) out of there and just do a fresh install of V7.0 Networker, but feel like having them deliver what they promised, or giving us some money back.

If I do 'do the deed' myself... can I just do a fresh install of Networker 7.0 and restore the indexes from my 6.1.x Sun tapes, or should I just park a set of 6.1.x tapes to the side and just start using other tapes?

Thanks!

You can do a direct update. Just uninstall SBU, then install Legato. The programs are the same but the packages
are named differently.

However, it is a good idea to keep a valid backup of your
system, just in case.

Hmmm... so do an uninstall, leave your /nsr directory intact, then reinstall the Legato Networker 7.0?

Sounds like a plan to me!

Thanks!!

Sure. Go for it!

But as usual, do not forget to have good backups, just in case ;-))

...piece o' cake... no problems at all.

Guess I didn't have to do backups first afterall, right? ;-)

Well, the painful part is removing all of the Sun clients and installing all of the Legato clients... geesh am I tired!

(Yea, I know I probably would not have to do this, but I want to ensure everything is running Legato-issued softare instead of Sun.)
