I have a standard form, when I place the cursor on a field and ask to do a search for a name, it will not find the individual. The employee last name, first name is displayed. When I ask it to look for the employees ID it will find them.

I know the form is based on the employee ID, but I'd like to search based on the name, either first or last name.

Thnks in Adv.

First check the settings of the checkboxes in your search window.

Is Search Only Current Field checked? Is your cursor in the right field?

Are employee last name, first name in a single field in your form? If not, use a filter instead of Find.

Have you tried copying the actual data from a field and then pasted the name into the find window?

Have you tried using wildcards?

Is this a calculated field?

We need more details in order to help.
In some case's ODBC data is always in Upper case.
If you are keying in an employees name in lower case it will not find it.
Because you said you can find the ID.

Try turning on CAPS lock and see if that works when you try to search.
Also Go in the Table view and sort Alphabetically scroll down to see if you can find employee data to make sure it is spelled correctly.
I sometimes copy and paste the data in my find box.
Check this too.
If you are searching for Mary Smith and you key in MA make sure in the find box that "Match" to something other than "Whole Field"

Hope this Helps.
Sounds like a very common problem in that you have the field storing the ID but showing the cust name. Therefore, the invisible field (the ID) is what is searched on and that fails as you know when you search for a name but works fine when you search for the ID number which is useless to your users.

That's the problem, but I don't know how to cure it. Soz.

When I select the match case, It finds the names, How interesting. Thanks for all of the responses.
