Form opens in read-only mode

I'm working with an Access 97 database where there are several forms that open up and will not allow me to make any changes to the data unless I go to the next record, and then go back to the previous record. Then I am able to edit data. Has anyone else ever encountered this issue?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.
