I've created a database in access 97 which I have split. The back end is stored in a shared drive on a network that users have access to. Now the front end with the form works fine on my machine but when another user opens the form it pops up with only the header graphic showing - no fields, labels, buttons nothing. How am I supposed to distribute the front end form to users - where should it be stored? Someone has mentioned using creating a .mde file for users.

Can anyone help?

On the client machime have you linked the front end to the back end?

thornmstr,

excuse my ignorance but how do i do that?

More than likely what happened is that in your process of splitting your database into front-end and back-end you did that properly. You then put the back-end on the shared server location and put the new stripped down front end on the other users PC's. There front-end application has no tables because you have deleted them out but you have failed to link to the new location of the tables on the server. Then reason that your seems to be still working is that you are probably still opening up the version of the application prior to it being split front-end and back-end. This application is still running correctly because the tables are resident in the .mdb file.

As thornmastr suggests just link the stripped down front-end to the server based files on the server.

Don't worry about the mistake plenty of us have down the same thing the first time we split the database into a front/back end application. Common mistake.
