Form list or add data

Greetings,
I have a database that has patient status within a medical program. I have a data entry form to add patients to the database what I need to know is :
Is there a way to have the form look up the patient’s name as the user types in the first few letters? That way they won’t re-enter someone who’s already in there.

I think this can be done but im not sure how to start. Any ideas would be a great help.

Why not simply follow the combo wizard ?

I think i found the combo wizard but when I tie it to the field i want its returning numerical data (autonumber i think) instead of the patient name....
