hi,

for word document, a text box size will grow to fill the amount of text in it. is it possible to do this with a pdf form?

i currently have a form with some text boxes. each box can hold a lot of text but when i print it, it will only print whatever i can see on the screen.

thanks.

If you are making the text box in Acrobat you can make it any size you like. Which you can increase the size. You will find this in the menu.....tools/advanced editing/forms and use the text field tool.
This will draw a text box and you can always use the same tool to grab the side or corner to change the size of the box.

Bilebalar,

I have a simular need. I want the textboxes to GROW as the users fill them.

Did you ever get a solution for this--on the fly--type of text box sizing?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, weigoldk.

No, I haven't find a solution for this.

Acrobat does have a built in method to handle this - not always the best solution though.

If you leave the font size set to Automatic, as the user adds additional text to the box, the font will change size to allow the contents to fit in the available space.

Another solution would be to use template pages. If the end user is NOT using Reader. This will only work in one of the full versions of Acrobat. You can then create additional pages as necessary.

Thanks samaba,

I believe we need the security of our end users having only reader. I'll explore this some more--do you have a source for an easy primer on template pages?

We also need the text boxes accomodate just few words or even a N/A entery up to one or two pages. Leaving the text boxes huge would be just a waste of paper when the box didn't apply to the situation and having the font size adjust down to the smallest font would be useless.

Maybe I'll have to think outside of the acrobat box, but I'd like to take a shot at those templates first.

Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay - I could not locate the template I learned from - It was on Adobe's website. It is a book receipt for teachers to keep track of the student books that are checked out, and the condition of each. As you add another student it adds another page to the document.

What version and platform are you working on? Acrobat 7 Professional comes with Adobe Live Cycle Designer. Designer forms are XML based, and have much more functionality. However, they require the end user to be using Reader 7. They have "dynamic" form fields that can grow as needed for content - even spilling onto another page if needed. These type do work in Reader 7. If you have the 7 Professional take a look at the Dynamic Purchase Order Sample included with the program.

Sorry for not getting back with you. I forgot to sign myself up for notifications.

I have Acrobat 7 Pro. My end users have Reader 7 so this is definately something I'm interested in.

Thanks.

I'm at home now - have 6 pro here. I'll post steps to locate the sample template tomorrow from work.

There is a read me file to explain all of the samples located here as well.
