Hi everyone

I have a new fedora 5 linux box. I forget the root password. During installation I have choosen default file systems installation ( boot file system and LVM partition).

I used a rescue cdrom to boot. but i cannot mount my lvm partitions to get access to the passwod file in /etc/password in order to change the root password.

my question : how can i mount my lvm partition to get access to the /etc/password file or is there any other easy way to fix my problem ?

Thanks so much for your answers

How To Boot Linux (Red Hat Fedora) Into Single User Mode Using Grub
2004-07-13 Jason Michael

After searching through Google on how to boot Linux (Fedora) into single user mode, I couldn't find any instructions on this until I did a search on 'grub boot single', which brought me some instructions at this link detailing different boot configurations for Linux.

In order to fix my particular problem, I needed to type 'a' at the Grub boot menu, which brings up the 'grub append>' prompt:

grub append> ro root=LABEL=/ hda=ide-scsi rhgb

Anyway, I just needed to add 'single' right after the LABEL=/ parameter and hit enter. The system then booted up to a command prompt, which allowed me to change the password of the root user. I needed to change this password, because I wanted to use a Linux system that was previously used by an ex-employee of our company. The in-house web developer wanted another test system to use for development purposes

thanks so much to Jason Michael

Thanks for posting your own solution. I know I'll be needing this at some point. Have a star.
