Forest DNS

dear all,
i have a forest with empty root domain and 5 regional domains distributed on 5 sites.
i want every site to use its DNS server is that possible, or all sites must work with the forest root DNS?
and if possible how do i make sure that there will be no replications between the DNS servers.

you could use secondary dns for the sites but they would all still have to have primary dns

I think there is an option under DNS properites that allows or disallows DNS updates. However i am not sure whether this is for local machines or servers
