I am helping a friend who has a laptop that needs to have windowsXP reinstalled. The problem is that the monitor is broken and I had it set up to use a crt monitor since it is dual monitor capable. The problem now is that something has gone wrong and I want to try and reinstall windows. there is enough image that if I shine a flashlight on the bad screen I can read it but I don't want to do an entire reinstall that way

Is there a way to force the laptop to use the other monitor during the reinstall of are they out of luck?

Usually most laptops have a combination of keys that send the video to the other available output. Have you tried looking at the function F1-F12 keys, One of them should have a little screen above the number or something similar. And in conjunction with a special Fn key it should divert the output to the other monitor.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Ah yes, I'll give it a serious look, thanks
