I am using 9.2 on a G4 every time I start up the computer I have to force quit the finder. Is there any way to fix this?

If you code it, I will crash it.

In simple terms, the finder is the OS. Something is causing the OS to crash. What is it?

Try going to the Control Panel>Extension Manager and select the minimal startup set. Reboot. If you do not need to force quit the Finder, you have narrowed your problem down to a problematic extension. Experiment to see which extension is giving grief (a bad extension load is indicated by a red X over the icons that appear at the bottom of the screen during boot.

If the problem is not an extension, see if there is a rogue document in the print que - - or if there is something odd in System Folder>Startup Items.

Depends on at which stage of your boot that you are experiencing your "freeze".

Could certainly be a corrupt extension and the Honorable Jimoblak gives good advice above...

He says :
Apple menu | Control Panels | Extension manager

and then select the set of OS 9.2 Base and restart..

You can also try Zapping the PRAM and rebuilding the desktop. Cold Boot holding down Option-Apple-P-R (threee chimes) then release the "P" key and keept he rest down till prompted for rebuild...

A trick to rebuilding the desktop without restarting...
force quit the finder, and then hold down option-apple real quick. ________
Remember, you're unique... just like everyone else.
