Force open file descriptor to close

Can I force a file that's being written to close.

I've had a look at fcntl but am not a 'C' person.

I assume you are looking for a way besides killing the process that is actually writing to the file. I have no idea how to do this, sounds like a good question for a UNIX programmers forum.

Yes it's a ULOG being written to by Tuxedo 8.1; so a HUP wouldn't work anyway.
