Force Items to Appear

Hey all, this is what a page of mine looks like:

Checkbox

.

I can make the checkboxes appear when the respective radio button is clicked (using onClick), but, what I've done is compared the radio button to the database to see if it was already selected by the user. Therefore, when the user loads the page, the correct radio button is already on but the checkboxes underneath it won't display.

My question is when I load the page for the user with the radio button on, how can I force the respective checkboxes to appear?
