Hi, this could be something real simple, but I am not sure. I am trying to view the first page I uploaded to my site, but I get the error:

HTTP 403 (Forbidden) You are not authorized to view this page.

I guess it could be because I only uploaded the page about an hour ago, but am not sure if it could be anything else. If it is something else, then what have I missed from my page thats preventing me from viewing it?

Thanks.

What's the name of your page? Most web servers are set to have "index" or "default" as their default page. If your page isn't named whatever your web server is looking for, you would sometimes get this error.

Hope This Helps!

Ecobb is correct... if your page is named "bobsHome.htm", you won't be able to see it by going to " you'd have to fully qualify the name, like "
...so, be sure that you're accessing the exact page address.

Or, if there's UNIX involved... it's Case Sensitive! (that's still correct, isn't it?)

Good point Mr3Putt, I had forgotten about the case sensitivity issues! It's been a while since I dealt with much Unix/Linux stuff. As far as I know, case sensitivity still applies to Linux (at least on RedHat 7.3, although that's 2 versions old).

Hope This Helps!

Ecobb;

But, as I re-read the original post, it looks like he's being denied "browse" access at (perhaps) the directory-level... so it's more likely a default-page-naming issue (as you originally suggested).

My page is named "index" and checked the hosting documents I have and "index" is correct.

I also read though that it says it can take 24 - 48 hours before I can see the files. Will keep an eye on it over the next couple days, and if still nothing contact the hosting company.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi mate,

Check the file extension.

It needs to be the same as your hosts configuration for DirectoryIndex, so if they only have index.html then you must make sure you are not using index.htm or similar.

Hope this helps

Not sure what to do about the extension, at the moment I am using "html" and the documents I have say I can use either "htm" or "html"

I think I will keep it as it is, if still can't access the site on Monday will try "htm" and if that still provides no job will be on the phone to the ISP.

Ok site is now working, I think it just took longer than I am used to for the pages to be there.
